Doug was born October 6, 1945 in Frederick to the late Theodore Liles Puckett, Sr. and Mildred Cooley (Nichols). He died after a brief bout of illness with his immediate family present. Doug was raised on a farm near the South Canadian River by his parents and siblings, Ted, Audrey and Ruby. In 1965, he joined the Air Force after graduating High School and was married to Norma Poteete. They moved to California where he was stationed at San Francisco’s 41st Air and Sea Rescue. He served for a while at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines and received an honorable discharge in 1969 and moved to Oklahoma City where he began working at Western Electric as a cable former and during his time there he went back to school where he obtained an Associates’ Degree in Psychology from OCCCC, as well as several technical degrees from Devrie Technical Institute. In 1980, Doug moved his family to Jones, Oklahoma and began construction on their home. Western Electric was bought out by AT&T and then Lucent Technologies from which he retired as a Troubleshooter and Tester Specialist. In 1985, he decided to try his hand at entrepreneurship and the family opened a very successful pizza place in Jones. Norma and Doug divorced in 1989 after raising their two children and Doug never remarried.
In his spare time, Doug enjoyed studying the Word of God, raising horses and cattle, water sports, snow skiing, traveling and sight-seeing, riding four wheelers with his kids, fishing and camping, spending time with grandkids, supporting OU Football and pretty much anything else that involved adventure with family and friends.
Survivors include his two children: son, Paul Douglas Puckett, 51 of Jones, Oklahoma and daughter, Christina Lee Fernandez (Puckett), 47 of Jones, Oklahoma, son-in-law Julian Fernandez, 49 of Panama City, Panama, and five grandchildren: Kelseigh, Dylan, Madeleine, Cydnee and Cielo. They were each his pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings: Ted Jr, Audrey and Ruby of Hobart, Oklahoma.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore L. Puckett Sr. and Mildred Cooley.
Flowers may be sent to Oklahoma City Cremation in Oklahoma City.
