Edith Marie Nice departed this world on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Fairfax Memorial Hospital. She was born to Clyde and Edith Nice on October 17, 1942. Edith’s life was one of courage and strength, facing the difficulties of cerebral palsy throughout her 74 years.
She was a very proud graduate of Kingfisher High School. She also completed correspondence courses in Bible study, typing, and tax preparation. One of her jobs was to complete her parents complicated farm tax returns for many years.
Even with only the use of one hand, Edith was a stellar needle worker. She cross-stitched pillows, baby blankets, and pictures. As with the many projects she took on, her perseverance was inspiring.
Edith delighted in her friends, her family, her faith and little children. Her prodigious memory was one of her astonishing abilities; she would routinely ask about someone from her past, remembering them in a very positive way.
Edith resided in Kingfisher, Oklahoma until the passing of her mother, when she became a resident of Fairfax, Oklahoma. With her outgoing personality, she made many new friends in her new community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Edith Nice. She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Luella and Reverend Monte Nabors of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, her sister and brother in law, Dr. Carol and Dr. Joe Conner of Fairfax, Oklahoma her brother Clyde Nice of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and her brother and sister-in law Ray and Rose Nice of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Jan Nice says
When my father died I felt very lost. I was 9 and my mother and brother moved to Oklahoma. Edith Marie spent hours with me teaching me notes on the piano, telling me stories and just being with me. I am grateful that she was in my life. And now she has peace.
Paul Lana says
Over the years – Always a smile (especially when I teased her)
Now one less OU fan!
Allen Clason says
Growing up, one of my favorite places to visit was the Kingfisher farm which included a conversation with Edith Marie. She never failed to offer her smile and kind friendship. Cousin, one day we will meet again face to face for more conversations and an eternity to rejoice with our Savior, extended family, and many friends.
Frances Hoskins says
Edith Marie was an amazing woman! in spite of her physical problems, she always had a smile and a good word for everyone. She kept updated on the family and current news and so enjoyed the big family get-togethers.
Now she is truly free and whole!
