one of my favorite memories about gary is the time I got to spend with gary in the 1961 o.s.u. baseball season. gary was a sophomore and I was senior. we had a good year and gary made a big contribution playing third base. my memory is that we won the first twenty-one games and eventually won the big eight championship and then the district 5 playoffs to qualify for the ncaa national championship tournament in Omaha Nebraska for the third year in a row. we eventually made the finals with only southern California and Oklahoma state remaining. my memory is the Trojans were always in the top ten teams in the nation year after year. we finally lost the game 1-0. our pitcher Littleton fowler was named the mvp for the college world series which was a great honor for all of us. memories like these last for a lifetime and I was honored to relive many of them with gary as we watched our grandsons (gary’s jack and my blake) play baseball together for most of the 2013 and 2014 baseball seasons. for three seasons, I was privileged to play with many great players and gary was one of them. many today believe our teams of that era helped continue building a solid foundation for the great baseball program that is part of the Oklahoma state baseball program that still exists today. his family should be very proud that gary contributed a great deal to our o.s.u. baseball legacy. I’ll miss you gary until we meet again.
