It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, and Pa, Jim Bicknell. Jim left us on June 1st, 2024, in his hometown of Edmond at the age of 68 years after a hard-fought battle of living with Alzheimer’s for 12 years.
James Brian Bicknell was born in the U.S. Army Hospital in Wurzburg, Germany on September 18th, 1955, to Allen and Rachel Jordan. Jim graduated in 1973 from Edmond High School. 1975 proved to be a pivotal year in Jim’s life as he began his career at Southwestern Bell as a long-distance operator and married the love of his life, Dianna. In the 1980’s, Jim and Dianna welcomed their daughter Kristin and son Jason. As a family, they loved going to the lake, spending time with friends and family, and spent countless hours at the softball and baseball fields. Jim felt it was important to get an education and decided to earn his degree while working full-time and raising two kids. He achieved his goal and graduated from Central State University with a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1990. After 34 years, Jim retired from AT&T in 2009 as an Engineer. One of Jim’s favorite roles was that of being a grandpa, otherwise known as Pa. He loved spending time with his grandchildren being goofy, making them laugh, building towers, and watching them play sports.
Jim was kind, gentle, laid-back, even-tempered, and always looking out for others. He was known for his dry sense of humor, wisdom, and ability to always have a good time. His passions were good music, Corvettes, working out, and his OU Sooners and Dallas Cowboys. He spent numerous hours playing his guitar, singing, and making music. He had the uncanny ability to give everything a nickname and the wit to slide the best zinger into any conversation. His absence will forever lead a void in our hearts.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Dianna, his daughter and son-in-law Kristin & Jeremy Edwards, his son and daughter-in-law Jason & Alex Bicknell, grandchildren Jaden, Jace, Jaxten, Daisy, Jett, Kolter, & Krew, brother and sister-in-law John & Kathleen Bicknell, sister and brother-in-law Janice & Wayne Williams, sister and brother-in-law Jennifer Bolt & Jason Kates, and many loved cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
For those interested in donating in honor of Jim’s memory, the family suggests making a tribute gift to the Alzheimer’s Association.
