John “Sonny” Jearld Taylor

JOHN “Sonny” JEARLD TAYLOR  of Yukon OK, formerly of Shamrock TX, left this earth and received his angel wings on Friday June 21, 2019. He was 86 years old.  John was born September 6, 1932 in Wichita Falls, Texas  to John Merrill Taylor and Lottie Mae Green Taylor.  He was the oldest of 2 children.

John attended school in Wichita Falls and continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was studying to be a chemist, when he was called to serve his country in the Korean War.  Due to his ability to type, he served as a Staff Sergeant stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.  He served his country as a member of the United States Army.

He wed ElWanda Neldadene Edwards on June 23, 1956 in Clovis, New Mexico.  John lived his life in Shamrock, Texas  where he was a cattle rancher in the Dozier Community until his retirement.  He and ElWanda relocated to Yukon, Oklahoma in 2016.

John and ElWanda were blessed with two daughters, three grandsons and two great grandsons.  He had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed the time with his grandsons hunting where the competition was always on.  John and Elwanda loved to dance and were avid followers of the Western Swing Groups and Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, all of whom became close personal friends over the years.  They spent many years in the square dance circuit, traveling far and wide to meet up with their next group of squares.  John had a love for yard work, his flowers and rose bushes.  There was no greater love though than his love for his grandchildren. He spent many hours at ballgames, band concerts, stock shows and any other event that involved his three boys.  They learned a true respect for firearms from their Pop, who taught them at a very young age about guns and how to use them.  John was a member of the American Legion Post 34 of El Reno, Oklahoma

John was preceded in death by his wife Elwanda,  mother Lottie Mae Green Taylor, father John Merrill Taylor, and one brother Donny Taylor.

He is survived by his daughters, Donnese Taylor of Shamrock, Texas,  Tanya Hobbs and husband Mike of Yukon, Oklahoma,   Grandsons Chris Hobbs  of Woodward, Oklahoma,  Johnathon Hobbs and wife Denise of Yukon, Oklahoma and Jeremy Hobbs of Friona, Texas. Two great grandsons Evan and Easton Hobbs.
