Kathleen Toney

Kathleen Toney, age 64, of Oklahoma City passed away October 21, 2015. She was born July 25, 1951, to Warren and Mary Jane (Blessing) Sullivan. She lived in Oklahoma City for most of her life leaving only to attend college in Stillwater. She graduated from John Marshall High School in May 1969 and from Oklahoma State University in May 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. She married Reynolds Toney in November 1975 and they had two children, Jessica and Jason.

Kathleen passed her PE exam on her first attempt in 1980 to become a Registered Professional Engineer in Oklahoma. Early in her career, she was in private engineering practice in Oklahoma City as a Structural Engineer. She was responsible for the structural design of numerous buildings in Oklahoma; such as the Heritage Hall Middle School in Oklahoma City, the O’Donoghue Center at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City, the First Baptist Church in Elk City, and numerous other schools and churches throughout Oklahoma. Later, she joined the Oklahoma Department of Transportation as a Bridge Designer and was responsible for the structural design of numerous bridges in Northern Oklahoma, such as the 71st Street Bridge over US-75 in Tulsa and the bridge from northbound I-35 to US-77 over southbound I-35 at the south Guthrie exit.

Kathleen enjoyed knitting as well as word and number puzzles. She enjoyed singing and sang in the choir at Church of the Servant for many years until her health forced her to stop. She loved to travel having visited Mexico, Belize, Canada, and many of the island nations in the Caribbean Sea as well as Alaska and most of the continental United States. Her favorite places to vacation were Disney World and anywhere she could cruise.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Mary Jane (Blessing) Sullivan. She is survived by her husband, Reynolds Toney of Oklahoma City; daughter, Jessica Toney of Oklahoma City; son, Jason Toney of Stillwater; and sister, Janice Taylor and her husband Gary of Bernice.

Services will be held in the Chapel of the Cross at the Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd, Oklahoma City on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 2:00 PM.
