Larry “Poppy” Splitt

Larry “Poppy” Splitt peacefully passed away March 11, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family, following a long battle with the effects of Agent Orange contamination from his service during the Vietnam War. Larry was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 8, 1947, to Leonard & Lillie Splitt. Larry attended U.S. Grant H.S., and during his senior year, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1964 to 1967.

Following his discharge, he returned to Oklahoma City and began his career as an Aviation Sheet Metal Mechanic at T.A.F.B., retiring after 30-plus years of service. Larry was an avid golfer and fisherman, but nothing was more important to him than spending time with his family and his service to his country as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy. Even through his final battle, he lived his life with a “Can-Do” attitude. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those lives he touched.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Lenda Guthrie. He is survived by Donna, his wife of 54 years; sons, Richie Splitt & his wife Jill and Chris Splitt & his wife Rhonda; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to the Dale K. Graham Veterans Foundation (www.CelebratingTogether.org); or the Norman Regional Foundation.

Private family services will be held.
