Richard “Dick” Morrison passed away on July 4th, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John Stanton Morrison and Vida Grace Morrison.
Dick was a kind, generous and talented gentleman and was loved by many. He loved to tell about how he played piano and directed the choir for the Oklahoma City Boys Club while he attended Classen High School. Later, he attended Oklahoma City University, where joined the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and served as President of the local chapter, Theta Delta. He earned an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in 1956, and went on to earn a Master of Business degree in 1965.
After receiving his Bachelor Degree, he married Dorothy Clarice Morrison in 1956. His first few years of marriage were spent as a trainer for the United States Army. He was stationed in Fort Eustice in Newport News, Virginia, and they lived in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, a short distance away.
After an honorable discharge and upon returning to Oklahoma City, he served as Elder at Crown Heights Christian Church. He was a very active member of the church and also served as it’s business manager for a time. Dick devoted many hours to numerous volunteer activities, including as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the OK Chorale, a local men’s chorus devoted to the preservation of the barbershop style of singing. During his time with the chorus the group won several national championship choral awards. In 2008 he was named as “Barbershopper of the Year”.
Dick owned and ran the Commercial Warehouse Company, a business established in 1923 that he purchased from his father John Stanton Morrison, along with it’s partner trucking company, Commercial Transportation. Dick served as President of the American Chain of Warehouses, the American Warehousemen’s Association and Mid America Warehousemen’s Association. In 1991 Dick was awarded the “Distinguished Alumni” award from Oklahoma City University.
With his wife, Clarice, Dick travelled the globe on cruises and trips. They also participated as patrons of the Prix De West at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and enjoyed relationships with many of it’s contributing artists. Dick and Clarice were married for 67 years.
Richard J. Morrison was preceded in death by his brother Randy Morrison. He is survived by his wife Clarice, his sons Brad, Chris Lee and Kyle, along with two granddaughters Samantha (Sami) and Lillian (Lily), and his sister Marjo Hubbell and her daughter Terri Hubbell.
Dick will always be remembered for his kind, pleasant demeanor with a chuckle and a grin.
A memorial service, to be announced later, will be held in August.
