Robert Wayne Newcome, Sr.

Robert Wayne Newcome, Sr., 71, went home to glory Monday, September 19, 2022, at his home with his loving wife and children by his side.

Wayne was born July 22, 1951, in Portland, Maine. He was the son of Arthur Robert Newcome and Mary Newcome (Miner). Shortly after birth, his family moved to South Carolina where he was raised along with his older sister, Patricia. Wayne was an adventurous and mischievous soul, and he definitely kept his parents on their toes.

In 1969, he met his future bride, Sandra Lee Perkins, at a bowling alley. It was a whirlwind romance and they married October 9, 1970. They were blessed with 3 children: Rob, Michelle, and Michael.

Wayne, while living and working in Atlanta, Georgia, enlisted in the United States Air Force February 10, 1977. The Air Force took his family to Ohio, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Oklahoma. Wayne also was blessed to personally travel overseas to the Azores, Oman, and Turkey. After settling in Oklahoma, he retired March 31, 2000.

Although Wayne loved serving his country, retirement afforded him the opportunity to pursue his passion:  Music. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Church Music. He served in several churches, and he loved leading a congregation in worship. His most recent position was at his home church of Stable Rock Baptist Church in Yukon, OK.

Wayne and his wife, Sandi, shared a mutual love for adventure. They traveled and camped as often as possible when their children were still in the home, but they really spread their wings later in life. They set out cross country in their travel trailer often and visited much of the United States. They particularly enjoyed exploring our nation’s national parks.

Wayne is preceded in death by his son, Michael John Newcome; his parents, Bob and Mary; his brother-in-law, Sterling Walker, Sr.; his nephew, Sterling Walker, Jr., and his in-laws, Don and Becky Perkins.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandi Newcome; his son, Rob Newcome (Jennifer) of Glenville, NY; his daughter, Michelle Murphy (David) of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren:  Elisa Green (Alex), Rebekah Leach (Lance), Julia Thomsen (Ben), Anna Newcome, Matthew Newcome, Michael Newcome, Josiah Murphy, Katey Murphy, Kidist Murphy, and Nathanael Murphy; his sister, Patricia Walker of Cocoa Beach, FL; and 3 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way).

Services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Wilton Baptist Church in Wilton, NY, with interment following at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY, times pending. We invite all family and friends to celebrate Wayne with us on that day.
