Rondell (Ron) Lee Hames, Sr

Rondell (Ron) Lee Hames, Sr., 80 years old, from Norman, Oklahoma passed from this life on Tuesday, February 9th.  He was surrounded by his loving family as he went peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father for eternity.  He was a man with great integrity and full of passion in whatever his endeavors were.

He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Naval Armed Forces from 1954 until 1958 and was stationed in San Diego, California.  After returning to Norman he joined his father-in-law working in a boat engine business.  From there he went to work for his father Jay at Triple A Mechanical as a steamfitter and member of the Plumber’s and Pipefitter’s Local 344.  In 1967 he and his brother Mel started R&M Mechanical Contractors, Inc. and were joined a short time later by his other brothers Larry and Jim.  R&M is where Ron retired as President of the company after 40 years of dedicated service.  He was President of PHCC (Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors) in 1985, an advisory board member of the AGC (Association of General Contractors) and was highly respected by many of his peers in the industry.

Ron was a dedicated and devout husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and an incredible friend to all.  He just loved helping others!  His hobbies included racing of all varieties, golf, grandkids and anything to do with Sooner sports.  His exceptional mechanical and electrical skills made it so that he could literally build or repair anything!  Whatever he tackled, he did it with GREAT PASSION!

Rondell was preceded in death by his father Jay Melvin Hames, mother Gladys Lucille Ketner and his brother Allen Hugh Hames.  Surviving members of his family are his beloved wife Donna, his children Rondell Lee Hames Jr. and his son Rondell Lee Hames III of Norman, Ok, Debbie Finnell and husband Butch and their children Tyler, Blake and wife Kyndall, great granddaughter Evelyn Rose of Little Rock, Arkansas, Eric and wife Kimberley of Oklahoma City, Ok, and the mother of his children Jan Hunter.  His brothers and sisters Mel and wife Tonda Hames, Ann Lindsay, Larry and wife Judy Hames, Jim and wife Deanna Hames, Marylin Helm, Virginia and husband Keith Wendorff, Kathy and husband Raymond Cox, Lee and wife Debie Sawyer, Leesa Hames and many nieces and nephews.
