Sandra Jo Lawter

Sandra Jo Lawter of Warr Acres, Oklahoma passed away on October 5, 2019 at Integris Baptist Medical Center.

“I met Sandy day #1 in a Sociology class Fall semester 1970 at OU. She said “Hey guy, lets move up front.” So, we did. 2 1/4 years older, she was at least a junior if not a first semester senior. She had gone to Woodstock the year before. We got married early January 1971 on the Courthouse steps in Norman by a Universal Life Minister. The University was about to kick me out of school, because I was not living in University Housing, I was not 21 and I didn’t have senior standing. We were comrades with benefits. We lived communally  active in Politics-Vietnam War/Draft, protests, underground newspaper, hanging out on Buchanan street, the Woman’s Liberation Movement. Though they legalized abortion and passed the era, finally that movement had to take a back seat to the Civil Rights Movement and the Anti-Nixon/Vietnam War Protests. As evidenced today , Woman’s Liberation has cut deeper and wider than the other two. Sandy either personally Ideocogically influenced many in that regard. In the summer of 1976, she completed her Social Work Degree before delivering our wonderful son, Joe. She spent the next three years as a stay-at-home mom. Then she went back to the workforce at her dads Oil and Gas Realty Company. I hope that she is resting easy, loving and being loved.” -Andy Veal
