Sharon Lee Mcelroy

Sharon Lee McElroy of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on July 29, 2021 at the age of 69 years old at Oklahoma Heart Hospital. Sharon was born in Memphis, Tennessee to Jean Irvin, who succeeds Sharon in life, and was raised by her mother and stepfather Carl Irvin, who precedes her in death. Sharon met the love of her life, John David McElroy, who preceded her in death, in 1967 at a YoungLife party when she was 15 years old and he was 17 years old. They later married on June 4, 1971. They were the definition of high school sweethearts and soulmates. Sharon loved her children dearly, Geoffrey “Geoff” David McElroy of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kaitlyn “Katie” McElroy Wright, and her son-in-law Elliot Allen Wright of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Sharon was the oldest of her siblings who succeed her, Donna Comer (Dwayne Comer) of Trumann, Arkansas, Diane Alvarez (Jim Alvarez) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, her stepbrother Glen Irvin (Kelly Irvin) of Joneseboro, Arkansas, and her step sister Carla Tate (Derek Tate) of Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

She loved working in the church and was an active member of several churches everywhere she moved including Cannon United Methodist in Snellville, Georgia, Horne United Methodist in Clayton, North Carolina, and St. Luke’s United Methodist in Edmond, Oklahoma. She loved teaching the Bible, hosting many small bible studies or community groups, teaching Sunday School to both adults and children alike, believed strongly in the power of prayer, and was on many prayer committees, and was extremely passionate about food ministry. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years, teaching her children to serve their community through charity and volunteer acts, as well as working as a volunteer at her local food banks.

Sharon loved action movies, music- especially The Eagles and Don Henley, The Rolling Stones, and The Who-cooking, reading, spending time with family, and always had a story to share and loved engaging in conversations with others. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend.
