It is with great regret we announce the passing of Ms. Susie L. McClure-Beasley after a lengthy battle with health issues. She was there for anyone and everyone she could help to very end. Susie was a wife and military dependent for 35 years. She began her love of library work starting as an audio/video technician for the dependent school system at Yokota AB, Japan. She continued this work upon arriving in Oklahoma City in 1978. Susie became a career employee with the Metropolitan Library System serving Oklahoma County. She was a graduate of University of Central Oklahoma. She had retired from her position of assistant librarian for the Choctaw Public Library as of July 31, 2016. Susie was a community activist involved in many organizations since arriving in Oklahoma City in 1978. She was a member of the Oklahoma Library Association, American Library Association, Black Caucus of the American Library Association, Oklahoma Museum Association, MLS Friends of the Library, Territory Tellers and a Charter Member of Defenders of the Museum Inc. She was also a member of the Red Hat Nubian Queens of Oklahoma City. Susie was a Board Member of the Community Advisory Board for Environmental Restoration at Tinker AFB. She was an advisor for the Library Technical Assistant Program at Rose State College. Susie actively participated as a volunteer at the Oklahoma City Civic Center and the Rose State College Performing Arts Center. Besides considerable volunteerism efforts Susie maintained an active life enjoying travelling, public speaking, the arts, and helping others in any capacity. She was the mother of Staci L. Beasley and Stormy D. Beasley both of Oklahoma City, OK. Susie’s love of her life were her daughters, helping them to achieve any goals they set. She was preceded by her parents Mr. George McClure, her mother Mrs. Edna McClure, and her brother Mr. George Marlin McClure. She is survived by her daughters, sister Ms. Janice Burrell of Calhoun, Ga., sister Ms. Shirley Walker of Carrollton, Ga., brother Mickey Hassler of St. Louis, Mo., brother Henry McClure of Calhoun, Ga., and ex-husband David Beasley of Oklahoma City, OK. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13th at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th, Oklahoma City, OK. Come celebrate the vibrant and loving life of Ms. Susie LaBelle McClure-Beasley.
