(Veteran) Kenneth Darrell Morrow

Kenneth Darrell Morrow, 85, joined his eternal Heavenly Father June 4, 2020.   He was born in Hancock, MO August 1, 1934 to Redus Wade and Ruby P (Broyles) Morrow. At a young age Darrell became his name of choice.
Darrell’s career was newspaper editor, writer and Photo Journalist over 40 years including the Wichita Eagle Beacon, The Oklahoman and The Journal Record where he experienced the bombing of the OKC Federal Building. Semi-retirement for 8 years followed at the OK State Department of Agriculture until full retirement in July 2003.
Darrell’s formal education began in a one-room school across the pasture 1-mile from their farm outside Iberia, MO. A move to KS at 9 years led to Pretty Prairie School followed by Hutchinson Junior College. Without a degree in journalism, Darrell often said he entered the field through the back door due to his passion and recognized ability in writing and photography. He was active in the Okc Gridiron Club’s annual political spoof for 30 years. Darrell loved history and was a member of the first class of volunteers for the new history center where he served as a gallery guide for many years. His wealth of knowledge was abundant and he could converse on almost any subject. Most recently his thinking outpaced speaking to surprise family with some very profound statements after deep thought. He was a devoted compassionate husband, father, grandfather and brother who enjoyed nothing more than family celebrations and vacations. His holiday eggnog was a long-standing tradition among family and friends.
He served his country in the US Army in Germany and the KS Air National Guard where he was a trusted informant working closely with the KSBI.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Janie Marie (Crouch) Hopfer Morrow of the home, daughter, Betsy Lou Miller, son, Chod Darrell (Wendy) Morrow, grandsons, Derek Manzanares, Garrett Chod Morrow, Carter Darrell Morrow, granddaughter, Sydney Shay Morrow all of KS, sister, Jackie Gardner of TX, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, D and Judith Ballard of OKC, loving nieces and nephews plus an abundance of friends and acquaintances from all walks of life. He was a man of character who fought for what was right for all mankind.
Darrell was a member of New Covenant Christian Church where he served on the building committee, as a deacon, board member, Serendipity Class, 55+, and was active in Disciples’ Men.
A “Celebration of Life” service is being planned with COVID-19 limitations at NCCC in early August.
